Saturday Fun Day: January 21, 2012

Saturday Fun Day participants got up close and personal with ARTreach artist Danny Russo as he introduced and demonstrated the technique of silk screening. Danny first showed us how to screen on paper with everyone having an opportunity to create silk-screened note cards which will be added to The Summerhouse Art Café inventory.

Then students and volunteers created our own Summerhouse design cutting images from constructions paper. We made flowers, leaves and Summerhouse butterflies. Danny will then use these cut paper images to make our own Summerhouse design  to be silk screened on shirts and aprons at our next ARTreach session February 18th

It was inspiring and everyone participated and experienced firsthand the practical applications for hand screened designs.

We then had lunch at one of our local favorites, Southwell’s, and enjoyed the warm weather as we ate outside. Then back to our meeting place, All Saint’s, where we had a Wii bowling tournament and played bingo with prizes!

Our next meeting is February 4th from 10:00 until 3:00 and we are going on a tour of Minute Maid Park, having lunch at James Coney Island, to stay within the baseball mood, and then we will head back to make a Valentine for that someone special.

What's your favorite thing to order at James Coney Island? Have any suggestions for cute Valentine expressions we could use on our cards? Comment and let us know!
