Last week was another awesome week! We moved into our new studio. We have lots more space to spread out and when asked if anyone wanted to take a break....they all said NO!

Everyone loves going to "work" and doing their job.

We work hard but play hard too.  Next week we begin yoga along with our usual activities of swimming, working out at the gym and playing the Wii which includes Wii Fit and of course, dancing. 

So Much Fun But Not In The Sun!

For our afternoon activity, we all piled in the car and headed over to West Grey Recreational Center where we shot some hoops, worked out in the weight room and played a game of basketball against Melissa and Angie who we beat shamelessly!  With all this exercise, we will soon be able to say "and I'm sexy and I know it" like LMFAO.

OPENING DAY

The Transition Center is officially open! We had an excellent opening day filled with opportunities to make choices independently and to learn important job skills, all while having fun with friends.

We got to choose what we wanted for breakfast and lunch and what activities to do during social and leisure time.

Check out this awesome space to play with the Wii and to have fitness time!

We're also going to learn more about eating healthy, and we'll make our own grocery lists and go shopping for food. How exciting! Walks around the neighborhood are also planned so we can get some exercise and visit with neighbors. 

During vocation time, we are going to learn important job skills such as following directions, task completion, endurance, time management, and leadership skills. 

Best part of the day: 

When Cole said, "I did it myself!" after cooking his breakfast. He was so proud of himself, and I'm sure we'll have plenty more memorable moments like that.

Aren't you curious?

We've been talking about The Transition Center for awhile now, and we are almost ready for the grand opening June 4, 2012! Since so much has changed since the first picture we leaked, we wanted to give an update on the progress.

It has been a labor of love, and it will be oh so worth it when our students arrive to the upgraded Transition Center that features:

• Fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops
• Laundry room
• Learning lab
• Office
• Media Center
• THE best place to hang out with friends!

That's just inside the house! The multi-purpose building out back will be used for projects and business enterprise. 

And the green space will be used for a garden where we will grow our own veggies to use for cooking.

The Transition Center is the perfect place to learn daily living skills needed to function independently. Stay tuned to see how The Transition Center is transitioning into what could be your home away from home. Are you getting excited?? We sure are!

Fun Day Appreciation BBQ

A big thank you to everyone who made it out to The Summerhouse Fun Day Appreciation Barbeque! We had an excellent time celebrating with all the people who make the Fun Days such a success.

You couldn't make it through the front door before painting a little. ARTreach helped us make a gorgeous collaborative painting for the Transition Center.

Everyone at the party contributed to the painting, and here's the finished product...

We all worked up quite an appetite after swimming, and we couldn't wait to dig in to the delicious barbeque! Look at all of that food!

It was a wonderful day with friends, family, and Summerhouse supporters, and we are looking forward to our upcoming journey...The Transition Center! 

Earth Day @ Discovery Green

Another awesome Summerhouse Fun Day! We headed out to Discovery Green to Party for Our Planet on Earth Day. There were lots of games and activities to keep us busy all afternoon! 

The Summerhouse ART Cafe - Another Huge Success!

The Summerhouse ART Cafe is such an enjoyable event.  It is so nice to visit with family and friends and meet new friends and community supporters as well.  The day started with us making our signature note cards to sell after we filled an order we already had for 40 cards.  We worked hard but were able to finish over 80 cards!  After a pizza lunch we opened the doors for our open house with refreshments and plenty of hospitality.  We played games, danced and basically had a big ol' party.  What a fun day and a very successful ART Cafe. Many thanks goes to our volunteers, staff and faithful supporters.  We couldn't do it without your help and continuous support.
